Dermaplaning
Dermaplaning also known as Dermalblading or Derma razor is a safe, easy and non-invasive treatment designed to make the skin feel smoother, appear healthier and more youthful. It is a painless superficial exfoliation technique that uses scalpel handle and 10-gauge scalpel blade held at a 45o angle and gently moved in swift strokes to scrape of deal skin cells. Dermaplaning removes at least 21 days of dulling dead skin cells in the top layer of the skin surface called the Epidermis and other minor skin imperfections. It is the first choice treatment for many clients with excessive vellus hair also known as “peach fuzz”. A common misconception on Dermaplaning is that the facial hair will grow out darker and thicker after the treatment. This is simply not true! Dermaplaning has no effect on the hair follicle at all and does not affect the regrowth of the hair.

FAQs
Do I have to do anything before my treatment?
Before any treatment at Dermacore, a free client consultation takes place. During this consultation, client requirements and client suitability (based on medical history and lifestyle) for treatment are assessed. Based on these findings, a personalised treatment plan is created to help deliver the results as per client expectations.
How quickly will I see results?
Clients see a visible improvement immediately after the first treatment with skin looking radiant, smooth and softer. Some redness may appear on the surface of the skin as standard, this will disappear within 24 hours.
How long will the results last?
This procedure removes at least 21 days of dulling dead skin cells and Vellus hair. Clients can expect results to last approx. 4 weeks
How many treatments do I need?
It is important to keep skin healthy, we recommend this treatment monthly.
Is it painful?
Dermaplaning is a painless, safe, easy and non-invasive treatment.
What is the recovery time?
There is no recovery time. However, the skin will be extremely sensitive. A high sun factor is required for a minimum of 24hours to reduce the risks of hyper pigmentation.
Are there any side effects?
Dermaplaning is a low-risk procedure. In rare cases some clients may develop whiteheads, infections or scarring.
-The Skin may be sensitive For some time
Dermaplaning involves the removal of the outer most layer of the dead facial skin. Therefore, the skin gets slightly sensitive since the process exposes the inner layer. It is required to use a high sun factor for atleast 24 hours to protect the skin. At the same time, it is advisable to clean your face with your hands only for about two days. This gives time for the sensitivity to fade away. Again, using face towels after the procedure may cause abrasion. Again, you may realise that your skin gets more reactive to some skincare products such as retinol. You need to avoid such products for a day or two.
-Redness may appear on the face
Depending on the sensitivity of your skin, redness may appear immediately after the process. As the Dermaplaning tool scrapes of the dead cells, the blood vessels get a bit irritated. Again, aggressive scraping would cause mild flaking of the skin for about two days to one week. These are minor Dermaplaning side effects. Therefore, depending on how your skin reacts, you may experience some redness. However, this effects fades within minutes – 24 hours. It is compulsory to brief the practitioner of any history of unpleasant skin reactions at the consultation stage. This will allow a professional aesthetician to decide if Dermaplaning is suitable.
-Dermaplaning Effects on Acne, Cold sores, Eczema and Psoriasis
Although Dermaplaning has no significant risks, there is a limitation. If you have skin conditions such as active acne, cold sores, eczema and psoriasis; seek treatment for the illness first. This is because these skin conditions are a result of infections, Dermaplaning on broken or inflamed skin would spread bacteria from one place to another and lead to a negative side effect.
However, if you have struggled with acne breakouts before, Dermaplaning could help you prevent a recurrence. Scraping off the dead skin and peach fuzz unclogs the pore. In return, Dermaplaning eliminates causes for potential future outbreaks.
What aftercare advice do you offer?
- Avoid sun exposure and use high factor suncream
- Do not use any skin products that contain AHA’s, Retinols and other similar agents
- Increase usage of collagen-stimulating peptides and Anti- Oxidant products. (Ask your Practitioner for more details)
- Avoid the use of makeup for at least 24 hours post-treatment
- Use a cooling face mask
- Avoid hot bath, hot showers, sauna, steam room, jacuzzi and any other activity that would reopen pores such as exercise.
- Drink plenty of water
- Wash face with hands and water for around 2 days and avoid scrubbing face with towel
Can you use it in combination with other treatments to enhance results?
Dermaplaning facial is a perfect pre-treatment to combine with other Advanced Facial Treatments such as Microdermabrasion, Micro needling, Chemical Peel & LED light therapy.
